B.I.NGO!

I love the fact that my kiddo's are excited about learning!  For the last two weeks, we have been learning consonant blends and digraphs of all sorts! To gain a little more excitement and recap our learning, I have created a BINGO game!  We played this morning to work out all of the kinks and the kids absolutely loved it! What better way to reinforce a skill than through a fun game!!!!
I spruced it up by adding the monster theme, I LOVE these monsters so much!
Aren't they adorable?

This past Friday, our kiddo's visited a local farm for pumpkin patch fun!  It was a perfect day, perfect weather, perfect opportunity for the students to view first hand....Plants!

For the next two weeks we will discuss Plants in science.  We will talk about life cycles, needs, uses, scientists who study plants, planting seeds, and even trophism!  What?!?!?!?! I have never taught Trophism to first graders but I'm going to give it a go....thanks Next Generation Science Standards!!!
Actually Trophism is really cool to learn about and I do believe that the kids will have fun learning something new, and no...I don't actually expect them to know the word trophism.  We are just introducing it.

For our Seed to Plant Adventure, I have created a 2 week unit of study to use.  I will use a lot of youtube videos (especially with trophism), google images(roots busting through concrete...cool!), fiction, and non-fiction books to round out this study.

Visit my TPT store and see what you think of my new unit!

Mystery Math

So today my students practiced "find the missing addend" using the math strategy to subtract.  We are taking time to learn various math practices and strategies as we work on basic operations.  My students are needing a little extra practice in finding the missing addend.  Today, we began calling it the "MYSTERY ADDEND"!  My students have been LOVING the science unit that I created for them, they are so excited over the cute little pictures (thanks www.mycutegraphics.com).  They have asked me if I could make them something cute to practice "Mystery Addends".  So....this is what I have came up with.  Hope they enjoy it, this will be part of their morning work tomorrow morning! :)

                                                        GET SPOOKY MATH HERE!

Halloween is a perfect time to study BATS!!!! Spooky right?  Stellaluna is my favorite "bat" book!
My students have always loved listening to the story and completing the activities.  Below are some activities that I have made to go along with Stellaluna.  I love using this story in combination with an informational text to make text-to-text connections, use story maps, and even do some informational writing!  You would be surprised at how much your students already know about bats when you use the schema chart!  Remember to refer back to your schema chart after your unit is complete to correct any misconceptions!!!!
